How to Choose the Right Pets & Animals
- Use training collars responsibly: Choose a collar that fits your dog's neck and start on the lowest setting. Use it alongside positive reinforcement, and get a trainer's advice for persistent barking.

Are bark collars cruel?
Many bark collars offer settings such as sound, vibration or mild static, and responsible owners start with the gentlest option. Used correctly for short periods and alongside positive training, they can help interrupt nuisance barking. They do not fix anxiety or boredom, so consider more exercise, enrichment or a professional trainer for ongoing barking.
What size pond pump do I need?
Work out your pond volume in litres, then choose a pump that can circulate that volume roughly once every hour or two. Allow extra capacity if you are running a fountain, waterfall or filter, as height and hose length reduce flow. Clean the pump intake regularly so leaves and algae do not block it.
How tall should a cat tower be?
Cats love to climb and watch from up high, so a taller tower with several platforms suits active cats and multi-cat homes. Make sure the base is wide and stable, and anchor very tall towers to the wall. Older cats may prefer lower, wider platforms with a gentle step up between levels.
Do dogs need a ramp to get into the car?
A ramp helps small breeds, older dogs and those with joint problems get into the car, onto the bed or up to the couch without jumping. It also saves you lifting a heavy dog. Pick a ramp long enough for a gentle slope with a grippy surface, and introduce it slowly with treats.
